Alarming footage circulating on social media shows SAF forces and allied forces carrying out torture, extrajudicial killings, and widespread destruction in areas previously controlled by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within 72 hours of retaking the state, reports state that at least 45 people were executed in El Dinder. In El Hasaheisa and Um El Gura, east of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/joy-as-sudan-army-reclaims-wad-madani-hemedti-vows-counterattack\">Wad Madani<\/a>, reports indicate that the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudanese-denounce-shield-forces-predatory-recruitment-as-concerns-over-new-militias-grow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sudan Shield Forces<\/a>&nbsp;torched villages, killing eight people, including children, and abducting 14 others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Human rights groups have confirmed that these acts, alongside brutal detentions and torture, are part of a vicious cycle of revenge against those accused of collaborating with the RSF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/video-of-extrajudicial-killing-by-sudan-army-sparks-outrage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Last week<\/a>, Radio Dabanga reported on a graphic video that sparked widespread condemnation, seemingly showing SAF soldiers shooting a civilian suspected of being affiliated with the RSF in Ombadda, a neighbourhood of Omdurman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2018Disturbing footage and an unconfirmed \u2018RSF-collaborator kill-list\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Video evidence reveals a catalogue of violence, including threats of execution, abuse of detainees, and racial targeting, particularly against the <em>El Kanabi<\/em>* community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amidst the chaos, activists are documenting the ongoing abuses, but fear tactics have complicated efforts to verify reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EyadHisham10\/status\/1878875027392655560\">A graphic video <\/a>supposedly shows SAF troops and militia forces loyal to Abu Agla Keikel torturing a doctor with special needs in Wad Madani, accusing him of collaborating with the RSF. The footage captures them abusing the man in the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keikel, who was once the RSF\u2019s senior commander in El Gezira, after having defected from the army, had led forces allied with the RSF for a year before&nbsp;he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/rsf-commander-defects-to-sudan-army-in-a-major-blow#google_vignette\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">returned to the SAF<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/EyadHisham10\/status\/1878875027392655560\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Journalist Mat Nashed noted&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/matnashed\/status\/1878876663381184882\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in a post on X (formerly Twitter) yesterday<\/a>: \u201cKeikel\u2019s forces committed a myriad of abuses in Gezira when he first captured the province as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudan-rsf-in-full-control-of-el-gezira-appoint-former-army-officer-as-commander\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a member of the RSF<\/a>. His forces now helped recapture the province for SAF, but they, along with some SAF units, are again committing abuses. Different uniform. Same impunity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lists of alleged RSF collaborators, circulated online, have stoked panic and led to arbitrary detentions, with civilians being held accountable for mere accusations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mohamed Zakariya of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/jem-rsf-disarmament-essential-for-any-sudan-settlement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Justice and Equality Movement<\/a>\u00a0condemned the targeting of members of the <em>El Kanabi<\/em>, warning that such acts could fracture Sudan\u2019s already fragile social fabric. He stressed that it is imperative to address hate speech and ensure justice for all.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SAF denial<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response, SAF denied responsibility for the violations, attributing the abuses to unnamed entities seeking to damage its reputation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SAF officials maintain that these acts do not reflect army policy, promising to hold those responsible to account while securing the region from opportunistic actors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, critics are unconvinced, pointing to their role in both perpetrating and condoning violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Calls for accountability<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The brutality has sparked outrage both within Sudan and across the international community. Prominent voices, including Darfur Governor&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/minawis-sudan-liberation-movement-to-fight-alongside-army\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Minni Minawi<\/a>, have called for immediate action to ensure justice for the victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>International human rights groups have labelled the violations as war crimes, urging the international community to step in with investigations and protection efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sudan Liberation Movement echoed these calls, demanding accountability from the Sudanese military and international intervention to shield civilians from further violence.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The RSF, whose own history of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/hrw-rsf-atrocities-in-south-kordofan-demands-protection-mission\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">atrocities is well documented<\/a>, has similarly condemned the army\u2019s actions, accusing it of genocide against ethnic minorities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2018Protection measures\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the situation continuing to deteriorate, Sudanese civil organisations are pushing for international intervention to protect civilians from further violence.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Justice and Equality Movement has called for a thorough investigation into the abuses and stressed that the military must take greater steps to prevent future atrocities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>* <em>The <\/em>El Kanabi <em>(Arabic plural of \u2018camp\u2019) is a name given to seasonal labourers (camp workers) in Sudan, in particular in central Sudan.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Many of them moved from western parts of the country, including Darfur, in the last century in search of work in the El Gezira Agricultural Scheme, set up by the British. The workers settled on the outskirts of villages and near irrigation channels and water banks. Others went to work on plantations in eastern Sudan.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>As the successive El Gezira state governments considered the <\/em>kanabi<em> temporary workers, they did not provide many services. Their lives can be characterised by poverty and isolation, due to government policies and the discrimination they face based on ethnicity and culture from the surrounding population.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sudaneseonline.com\/board\/10\/msg\/-The-Villages-of-Agricultural-Workers-in-the-Gezira-Scheme-%28Al-Kanabi%29%3A-Marginalization%2C-Neglect-an-1541033391.htm\">According to figures<\/a> presented by Jaafar Mohamedein, secretary general of the Kanabi Congress, in 2018, nearly 2,500,000 <\/em>kanabi <em>were living in 2,095 \u2018camps\u2019 in El Gezira, making up 39 per cent of the total population of the state. In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudan-s-kanabi-call-for-better-housing-services\">October 2020<\/a>, the Kanabi Congress called for transforming their settlements in El Gezira and eastern Sudan into model towns and villages on state-owned lands.<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"sws_supernormalaction\"><button on=\"tap:superwebshare-lightbox\"
