The poll, conducted across Dabanga\u2019s social media platforms, reflected a divided public opinion.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Thursday evening, September 26, the chairperson of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, and commander-in-chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Abdelfattah El Burhan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/el-burhan-addresses-un-condemns-regional-support-for-rsf-in-sudan-war\">addressed the United Nations General Assembly<\/a> (UNGA) in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just hours later, his rival, commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan \u2018Hemedti\u2019 Dagalo, delivered a video speech to the UN, broadcast through RSF platforms. Both leaders, embroiled in the ongoing conflict, used these speeches to justify their respective positions, each blaming the other for the country\u2019s deepening crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week, we asked our audience which speech they found more compelling. By September 30, our poll had been viewed an accumulative 24,953 times, received 2,245 interactions, and attracted nearly 100 comments. Here\u2019s how the results broke down across various platforms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RadioDabanga\/status\/1839611783650185612?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1839611783650185612%7Ctwgr%5E9ede8f4f2aa59b3185f6fc1c8b7220a956b9f145%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dabangasudan.org%2Far%2Fall-news%2Farticle%2Fd985d8b9-d8a7d984d8acd985d987d988d8b1-d8a3d8b5d8afd8a7d8a1-d8aed8b7d8a7d8a8d98a-d8a7d984d8a8d8b1d987d8a7d986-d988d8add985d98ad8afd8aa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>X<\/strong><\/a><strong> (formerly Twitter)<\/strong>: 53.7% of respondents found El Burhan\u2019s speech more convincing, 28.9% favoured Hemedti\u2019s, and 17.4% were undecided.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/962671501005510\/posts\/1540143089925012\/\">Facebook<\/a><\/strong>: Out of 1,400 participants, 52% supported El Burhan, 35% backed Hemedti, and 13% couldn\u2019t decide.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/ar\/%d9%85%d9%86%d8%a8%d8%b1-%d8%a7%d9%84%d8%b1%d8%a3%d9%8a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dabanga website<\/a><\/strong>: Here, 67% of voters favoured Hemedti\u2019s speech, while 33% sided with El Burhan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mixed views<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The public\u2019s comments reflected a range of perspectives on the speeches\u2019 content and political implications. While some saw both speeches as attempts to improve their public images, others viewed them as genuine calls for peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Daoud Jibril, commenting on Facebook, criticised both leaders, calling for an end to the power struggle and military rule, whether led by El Burhan or Hemedti. He emphasised the need for civilian leadership in Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In contrast, Ezz Ahmed, who identified himself as Egyptian, praised El Burhan\u2019s speech for its strength and clarity. He appreciated El Burhan\u2019s recognition of Arab nations supporting Sudan and his call for reforms to the UN Charter. Ahmed also noted El Burhan\u2019s accusations against countries allegedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/darfur-lawyers-investigate-role-of-wagner-and-emirates-in-sudan-war\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">aiding the RSF<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many others echoed similar sentiments, crediting El Burhan for his legitimacy and representation of Sudan at the UN. Mujahid Karar pointed out that El Burhan\u2019s presence in New York lent credibility to his speech, while Hemedti\u2019s remote video address raised doubts about its legitimacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, not all responses were positive. Osama Okasha expressed indifference, stating that \u201cthe average Sudanese person is more concerned with returning to normal life than the political manoeuvres of the two generals\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ghasan El Hasan suggested that both speeches were aimed at securing external support rather than addressing the country\u2019s internal challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others were more critical of Hemedti. Adnan Kahli questioned his understanding of international law and noted that El Burhan was the only leader invited to the UN General Assembly. El Fatih Abbas highlighted El Burhan\u2019s position as Sudan\u2019s legitimate representative at the UN, contrasting it with Hemedti\u2019s unofficial status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Voice messages received via Dabanga\u2019s WhatsApp reflected similarly mixed views. One participant, who chose to remain anonymous, dismissed El Burhan\u2019s speech as \u201cfilled with inaccuracies, particularly regarding the transfer of power to civilians\u201d. He argued that given both leaders\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudan-military-seizes-power-arrests-pm-and-civilian-ministers-in-dawn-coup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">involvement in the October 25 coup<\/a>, a civilian-led government remains impossible for now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another anonymous voice message participant criticised El Burhan\u2019s speech for repeating old statements and failing to address the escalating economic and humanitarian crises. He noted that although the RSF controls much of Khartoum, it has yet to form a government, further complicating the conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nasreddin, in his voice message, argued that while both leaders&#8217; speeches referenced peace and democratic transition, they were more concerned with enhancing their own images. He urged for real actions on the ground to end the war, rather than mere rhetoric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malik El Haj was blunt in his rejection of Hemedti\u2019s speech, accusing the RSF leader of disregarding the lives of ordinary Sudanese civilians. He stated that \u201cthe people do not want either Hemedti or the RSF in power\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, some described Hemedti\u2019s speech as more motivating, particularly in its call for the formation of new political platforms. However, scepticism remained high. Many felt that neither leader was committed to stopping the war, accusing them both of prolonging the conflict to further their own interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While El Burhan and Hemedti\u2019s speeches drew attention on the international stage, they have done little to sway public opinion or provide a clear path to peace. The conflict in Sudan continues, and the people remain caught between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/un-secretary-general-el-burhan-hemedti-power-struggle-to-blame-for-sudan-catastrophe\">two leaders vying for power<\/a> amidst an ongoing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/usaid-chief-sudans-humanitarian-crisis-at-dangerous-levels\">complex humanitarian crisis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div
