But in addition, I am extremely concerned about allegations of widespread international crimes being committed in El Fasher and its surrounding areas as I speak.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ICC prosecutor stresses that his office is \u201cinvestigating these crimes with urgency,\u201d having deployed teams on the ground in Chad, in Port Sudan, and in other locations in the region, to gather evidence and information to advance investigations. \u201cWe are seeking to work with all individuals and all agencies to collect relevant and reliable information, cogent evidence, that will strengthen our investigations and may support applications for arrest warrants,\u201d Khan says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday I wish to call upon your help to seek your assistance to further accelerate our work, so that the law is felt by those that desperately need it right now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>&#8216;The information being collected by my office on a daily basis from Darfur seems to disclose an organised, systematic, and a profound attack on human dignity. And I believe based upon the information we are receiving that we are on the precipice of something even worse&#8230;&#8217;<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Khan laments that \u201cthe information being collected by my office on a daily basis from Darfur seems to disclose an organised, systematic, and a profound attack on human dignity. And I believe based upon the information we are receiving that we are on the precipice of something even worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe evidence my office has collected to date seems to show credible, repeated, expanding, continuous allegations of attacks against the civilian population, in particular attacks directed against camps for internally displaced persons. It seems to show the widespread, prevalent use of rape and other forms of sexual violence. It seems to disclose, consistently, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/indiscriminate-rsf-shelling-of-north-darfur-capital-continues-unabated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shelling of civilian areas<\/a>, the looting of properties, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/msf-essential-hospital-in-north-darfur-capital-shut-after-latest-attack\">attacks against hospitals<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am particularly concerned by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/hrw-rsf-methodical-destruction-in-west-darfur-amounts-to-genocide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ethnically motivated nature<\/a> of these attacks against the Masalit and other communities. This is a crisis by any benchmark, that unfortunately seems to be accelerating, that seems to be deepening. That the suffering that\u2019s being endured is widening. And we cannot say that there has been no warning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u2018Civilians are being attacked and killed because of the colour of their skin, because of their ethnicity, because of who they are\u2026\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Khan cites his statements to the United Nations Security Council <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/prosecutor-icc-has-started-investigations-into-darfur-violence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in July last year<\/a> and again <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/icc-prosecutor-sudan-situation-dire-by-any-metric\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in January this year<\/a>, when briefing the Council directly from Chad., \u201cwhere I underlined as clearly as I could, the breadth and severity of the human tragedy that was unfolding\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kahn also cites comments as also reported by Radio Dabanga two weeks ago, in which Under Secretary General of the United Nations Alice Nderitu, special advisor to the Secretary General of the United Nations for the Prevention of genocide, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/genocide-advisor-briefs-un-security-council-on-genocide-in-sudan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">clearly noted<\/a> that she believes that the conditions for genocide are aligning in Darfur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cChilling words. And her words were clear. That civilians are being attacked and killed because of the colour of their skin, because of their ethnicity, because of who they are\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u2018It is an outrage that we are allowing history to repeat itself once again in Darfur\u2026 We cannot, and must not allow Darfur to become the world\u2019s forgotten atrocity\u2026\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn support of our investigation into these crimes, we are calling, in particular, for any video, photographic, or audio material that those on the ground have been able to capture. We are asking civil society and all partners, all individuals, all of you watching, to provide any contacts that you have with those who may be able to provide testimony, information, or evidence to advance our investigations. And we\u2019re asking our national authority counterparts, states parties [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Rome-Statute-eng.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to the Rome Statute<\/a>] and non-states parties alike to share any evidence, any information that they\u2019re collecting, or that they have collected, or have available to them in relation to these profound allegations of international crimes that are increasingly emerging and cannot be ignored. We ask that you send any relevant information to us on our dedicated secure platform. We cannot, and we must not allow Darfur to become the world\u2019s forgotten atrocity once again. This is a defining moment across the major conflicts we face globally, we must show whether there is value in our statements, in our promise that all international crimes are deserving of accountability, that all people are equal, that all communities deserve the protection of the law, and that all lives have the same value,\u201d Kahn concludes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>ICC in Sudan:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>In August 2021, ICC Chief Prosecutor<\/em><em>\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/prosecutor-khan-in-khartoum-for-talks-with-sudan-on-icc-cooperation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Karim Khan paid his first visit to Sudan<\/a>, following decisions by Sudan\u2019s transitional government to<\/em><em>\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudan-cabinet-unanimous-decision-to-hand-darfur-war-crimes-accused-to-icc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hand Darfur war crimes accused to the court<\/a>, and to accede to and ratify the 1998<\/em><em>\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.icc-cpi.int\/resource-library\/documents\/rs-eng.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court<\/a><\/em><em>\u202f(ICC).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>At the end of his visit, Khan announced the establishment of an<\/em><em>\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/international-criminal-court-to-establish-an-office-in-sudan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ICC office with a permanent team in Sudan<\/a><\/em><em>\u202fto further investigate the cases and gather more evidence against the indicted persons. He said he planned to return to Sudan in November and visit Darfur.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The<\/em><em>\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.icc-cpi.int\/darfur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ICC issued arrest warrants<\/a><\/em><em>\u202fagainst Ahmed Harun and Janjaweed leader Ali Kushayb in 2007.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/ali-kushayb-held-by-icc-in-the-hague-for-darfur-war-crimes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kushayb was transferred to the ICC\u2019s custody on June 9, 2020<\/a><\/em><em>\u202fafter surrendering himself voluntarily in the Central African Republic. Upon his arrest, the Sudanese government<\/em><em>\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudan-to-cooperate-with-icc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced its support<\/a><\/em><em>\u202ffor his transfer to the ICC. Kushayb is also<\/em><em>\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudan-prosecution-indicted-ali-kushayb-last-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">charged with a number of crimes by the Sudanese authorities<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>In February 2020, Sudanese authorities also agreed that Al Bashir, Harun, and Hussein would be<\/em><em>\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudan-govt-to-extradite-al-bashir-to-icc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">transferred to The Hague to face justice<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.icc-cpi.int\/sites\/default\/files\/CaseInformationSheets\/AlBashirEng.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Al Bashir was indicted<\/a> by the ICC in 2009 for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur, and in 2010 for genocide. He was convicted of corruption by a Khartoum court in December 2019 and sentenced to two years in a prison for the elderly. He still faces various other charges in Sudan, including staging a<\/em><em>\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/al-bashir-1989-coup-trial-adjourned-chief-justice-to-consider-judge-recusal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">military coup in 1989<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The ICC<\/em><em>\u202fissued an arrest warrant against<\/em><em>\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/icc-requests-arrest-warrant-for-minister-ambdelrahim-hussein\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Abdelrahim Hussein<\/a><\/em><em>\u202fin 2012 for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur. He and Haroun are also being held in prison in Khartoum.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The ICC issued another arrest warrant in 2014, accusing\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/international-arrest-warrant-for-darfur-rebel-confirmed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Abdallah Banda<\/a>, commander-in-chief of a breakaway faction of the Justice and Equality Movement, of war crimes in Darfur. The former rebel leader is still at large.<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"sws_supernormalaction\"><button on=\"tap:superwebshare-lightbox\" class=\"superwebshare_normal_button1 superwebshare-button-large class=\"superwebshare-svg\"  fill=\"currentColor\" viewBox=\"0 0 1000 1000\" stroke=\"currentColor\" stroke-width=\"0\"><path stroke-linecap=\"round\" stroke-linejoin=\"round\"
