The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate (SJS) fervently denounced threats directed at journalist Samar Suleiman, conveyed through both voice and text messages on her mobile device.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement yesterday, obtained by Radio Dabanga, the SJS considered the incident as an escalation, attributing it to what they termed as baseless accusations labelling\u00a0journalists<\/a>\u00a0as “sleeper cells” of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These accusations materialised against the backdrop of Suleiman\u2019s humanitarian efforts in aiding civilians seeking refuge from the devastations of war, particularly in the state of Kassala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The syndicate affirmed its unwavering solidarity with Samar Suleiman, condemning such tactics as a \u201cblatant attempt to\u00a0intimidate and silence <\/a>journalists<\/a>, especially women\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also announced the initiation of legal support to confront these serious threats and ensure justice prevails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the syndicate’s report, Samar Suleiman promptly notified the relevant authorities about the threatening messages received via social media platforms and her mobile device. Subsequently, the prosecution initiated five formal reports in response to this distressing incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dozens of human rights violations\u00a0against<\/a> <\/a>journalists<\/a>\u00a0and other press workers have been reported in Sudan since April 15. Most of the newspapers and radio stations have been\u00a0forced <\/a>to<\/a> <\/a>close<\/a>\u00a0because of the fighting and the repression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A\u00a0joint <\/a>editorial<\/a>\u00a0by the\u00a0Sudan <\/a>Media<\/a> Forum<\/a>, laments that the war in Sudan has claimed thousands of lives, displaced millions, and urges the global community \u201cto rally behind the Sudanese people and demand an immediate end to the war through negotiations. This conflict has caused enough suffering and democratic regression.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Targeted <\/a>murders<\/a> of <\/a>journalists<\/a>\u00a0have plunged Sudan into a total\u00a0media <\/a>blackout<\/a>. This prevents journalists from fulfilling their crucial role in informing the public,\u00a0upholding<\/a> <\/a>journalistic<\/a> integrity<\/a>, and exposing the war\u2019s devastating consequences. Millions are suffering, our nation is fractured, and foreign intervention looms.<\/p>\n
