The Chairman of Sudan\u2019s Sovereignty Council and commander-in-chief of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), Lt Gen Abdelfattah El Burhan, expressed openness to any Algerian role in addressing the Sudanese crisis. During a joint press conference with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in Algiers yesterday, Burhan lauded Algeria’s supportive stance in regional and international forums.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both El Burhan and Tebboune highlighted their deep historical ties with each other\u2019s countries, with the Algerian leader stating that they stood by Sudan in overcoming \u201cthe difficult circumstances\u201d and confronting \u201cthe forces of evil targeting it\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tebboune stressed his hope for a peaceful conflict resolution, expressing confidence in Sudan’s ability to overcome the crisis, and pledging Algeria’s support through its UN Security Council<\/a> membership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Int\u2019l tour<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Against the backdrop of growing controversy, Lt Gen Mohamed ‘Hemedti’ Dagalo, commander of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), faces allegations for what some critics deem as whitewashing and legitimising his paramilitary forces during his current international tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This tour has involved meetings with leaders across the Horn of Africa and an invitation<\/a> from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). Resulting in the outfall leading SAF Commander El Burhan to snub<\/a> and question the legitimacy of the IGAD African Bloc<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cairo talks<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Egyptian and Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministers, Sameh Shoukry and his Saudi<\/a> counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, called for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan during talks in Cairo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discussions taking place in the Egyptian capital yesterday, reportedly focused on underscoring the urgency of a ceasefire for full humanitarian access and initiating a political process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
