The assault has jeopardised MSF\u2019s continuing presence in the hospital.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn the afternoon of 20 July, an MSF team of 18 people were stopped by a group of armed men while transporting medical supplies to the Turkish Hospital, in the capital\u2019s south, where we provide healthcare,\u201d MSF reported in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msf.org\/staff-beatings-death-threats-jeopardise-msf-presence-khartoum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a> yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfter arguing about the reasons for MSF\u2019s presence, the armed men aggressively assaulted our team, physically beating and whipping them, as well as detaining the driver of one of our vehicles. The armed men threatened the driver\u2019s life before releasing him. They then stole the vehicle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident happened 700 metres away from the Turkish Hospital, where hundreds of patients \u2013 including children \u2013 are currently receiving treatment. \u201cYesterday, we received 44 patients who were wounded in an airstrike,\u201d the organisation said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Turkish Hospital is one of only two medical facilities that remain open in southern Khartoum. Both hospitals are supported by MSF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Minimum safety guarantees<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMSF teams assist the Ministry of Health in keeping the fragile healthcare system afloat. Following yesterday\u2019s incident \u2013 and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msf.org\/msf-facilities-looted-medical-activities-impeded-violence-sudan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">series of incidents<\/a>&nbsp;that have preceded it \u2013 our teams are beginning to think that our ongoing support may soon no longer be possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFollowing this horrific incident, MSF is warning that activities in the hospital are now in serious jeopardy, and we will not be able to continue to provide medical care if minimum&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msf.org\/restrictions-and-insecurity-obstruct-vital-medical-care-sudan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">safety guarantees are not met<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Christophe Garnier, MSF\u2019s emergencies manager for Sudan reacted by saying that \u201cIn order to save people\u2019s lives, the lives of our staff who are there to carry out this work must not be put at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf an incident like this happens again, and if our ability to move supplies continues to be obstructed, then, regrettably, our presence in the Turkish Hospital will soon become untenable.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Presence<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MSF is one of only a few international medical humanitarian organisations that are still present in the city, supporting hospitals in eastern and southern Khartoum, and in Omdurman<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organisation has treated over 1,600 war-wounded patients in Khartoum since April 15 when fierce fighting between the Sudanese army and its paramilitary counterpart, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), broke out in the capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the escalation of the current crisis in Sudan, MSF has been actively working in Khartoum, El Gezira, White Nile state, West, Central, South and North Darfur, River Nile state, Red Sea state, Kassala, El Gedaref, and Blue Nile region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MSF is also operating in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudanese-refugees-in-chad-face-health-and-hunger-crisis\">refugee camps<\/a> for Darfuri in eastern Sudan. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"sws_supernormalaction\"><button on=\"tap:superwebshare-lightbox\" class=\"superwebshare_normal_button1 superwebshare-button-large
