They are searching for their targets in neighbourhoods to assassinate them,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tens of thousands of people from Sudan are fleeing daily to Chad due to the escalating violence in and around El Geneina, native administration leader <em>Omda<\/em> Salih Hasan, told Radio Dabanga on Monday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ethnically motivated killings continue and members of certain ethnic groups are not allowed to cross the border, Hasan said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He explained that the war in El Geneina is not between the Masalit and the Arab tribes. \u201cAll ethnicities* that did not join the janjaweed are targeted, which forced most of them to seek refuge in Chad, including Arab tribesmen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is ethnic cleansing and the international community must activate Chapter VII of the UN charter**,\u201d the <em>omda<\/em> concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sultan Sa\u2019d Bahreldin, Sultan of Dar Masalit, who made it safely to eastern Chad, reported end June that roughly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudans-masalit-sultan-in-chad-70-per-cent-fled-el-geneina-but-many-face-violence-on-the-road\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">70 per cent of the population of El Geneina<\/a> has sought refuge in the Chadian towns of Adr\u00e9 and Ab\u00e9ch\u00e9. A number of his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/relatives-of-masalit-sultan-killed-in-renewed-attacks-on-west-darfur-capital\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">relatives have been killed<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two weeks ago, four lawyers were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/dba-four-lawyers-slain-in-west-darfur-deliberately-targeted\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deliberately targeted<\/a> and killed in West Darfur for their involvement in reporting past incidents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier last month, Head of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) Volker Perthes said that there is an emerging pattern of large-scale targeted attacks against people in Darfur, allegedly committed by Arab gunmen and armed men wearing Rapid Support Force (RSF) uniforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Radio Dabanga <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/horrifying-testimonies-from-west-darfur-as-another-masalit-sultan-relative-is-killed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">published a longer analysis<\/a> of the situation in El Geneina in June, based on witness accounts from people who fled to Chad, Radio Dabanga correspondents, and international health workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Displacement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The war currently raging in Sudan has caused a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/more-than-2-5-million-now-displaced-or-refugees-in-sudan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">large displacement of people<\/a> seeking safety in neighbouring Chad. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/data.unhcr.org\/en\/situations\/sudansituation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the latest figures<\/a>, more than 190,000 people have crossed the Chadian border so far, and numbers continue to increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lauralocastro4\/status\/1673652611474501632\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">In a tweet last Tuesday<\/a>, the representative of the UN refugee agency Laura Lo Castro said that \u201cevery thirty seconds, five families from Sudan cross the border into Chad through Adr\u00e9. Following the big wave of refugees on June 14, and June 16, around 4,300 refugees cross the border every day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A survivor of the El Geneina violence <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudanese-escaping-darfur-violence-continue-to-face-assaults-on-road-to-chad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told Radio Dabanga<\/a> last week that the gunmen ask those fleeing about their tribal background and that Masalit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/horrifying-testimonies-from-west-darfur-as-another-masalit-sultan-relative-is-killed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">are not allowed to cross the border<\/a> into Chad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><em>* The main tribes of West Darfur are the Masalit, Eringa, the Gimir, the Zaghawa, and <em>the &#8216;Arab&#8217; Misseriya Jebel<\/em>. The non-Arab Masalit, constituting the majority, straddle the Sudan-Chad border.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>** <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/about-us\/un-charter\/chapter-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chapter VII of the UN Charter<\/a> sets out the UN Security Council\u2019s powers to maintain peace. It allows the council to \u201cdetermine the existence of any threat to the peace, breach of the peace, or act of aggression\u201d and to take military and nonmilitary action to \u201crestore
