{"id":20033761,"date":"2023-03-26T10:16:00","date_gmt":"2023-03-26T08:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/?p=20033761"},"modified":"2023-03-26T13:24:15","modified_gmt":"2023-03-26T11:24:15","slug":"fire-guts-market-on-sudan-egypt-border","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/fire-guts-market-on-sudan-egypt-border","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Fire guts market on Sudan-Egypt border<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-6c531013 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p><strong>ARGEEN, NORTHERN STATE \u2013<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:600;\" class=\"wp-block-post-date\"><time datetime=\"2023-03-26T10:16:00+02:00\">26\/03\/2023<\/time><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>An extensive fire consumed an as yet unspecified number of shops, businesses, and homes in and around the Argeen crossing market on the border between Sudan\u2019s Northern State and Egypt on Saturday afternoon.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A witnesses who spoke to the official Sudan News Agency (SUNA) said that the fire broke out in the western part of the market and destroyed a large number of shops and kiosks, as well as housing sites for customs agents\u2019 assistants and freight and unloading workers. <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/wGr7QetK1h5hBDm98\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Argeen<\/a> lies on the western shore of Lake Nubia, some 20 kilometres north-west of Wadi Halfa, and less than 500 metres from the border with Egypt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The witness added that the fire brigade responded from the Egyptian side. \u201cThey rushed to put out the fire and did not report any loss of life\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another source at Argeen crossing told SUNA that the fire, that began during the preparations for Iftar, the traditional breaking of the fast of Ramadan, was spread quickly by winds in the area to destroy a large number of residential and commercial sites. The spread was accelerated as most of the shops are attached with traditional shelters made of wood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As previously reported by Radio Dabanga, a fire that broke out in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/tribal-clashes-claim-two-fire-raises-village-in-sudans-kordofan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">village of Muqaisim El Mahboub<\/a> in West Kordofan on March 18, destroyed 12 houses, including extensive property and crops, and causing the displacement of all affected families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Community leaders have appealed to humanitarian organisations to assist those left destitute. Fire is a constant danger. At least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/darfur-fires-consume-43-homes-10-shops\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">43 homes and 10 commercial premises<\/a> were completely destroyed by fires that broke out at a village in the border region between South and East Darfur, and another in a South Darfur market last
