They have been held for over a year under provisions of the Emergency Law. Sajo is the highest tribal authority in Abu Shouk, which is located near the capital of North Darfur. The lawyer called the detentions a flagrant violation of human rights and noted that none of the pleadings and appeals made by the lawyers have not succeeded in winning the prisoners\u2019 release. Kitir told Radio Dabanga that the ongoing detention of Omda Sajo and his colleagues pushed the prisoners to initiate a hunger strike in protest.
