Dr. Khalil Ibrahim, head of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), said that the government had arrested more than 75 leaders of Arab tribes in North, West and South Darfur and placed them in prisons because they refused to comply with the government. He said this in an interview on Monday, the second part of which will be aired tomorrow evening, Thursday, on Radio Dabanga\u2019s programme \u2018Frankly Speaking\u2019. Khalil Ibrahim denounced this action by the government and the oppression of the Arab tribes in Darfur. The rebel leader was speaking by phone from Tripoli. He had also pointed out earlier that his movement includes some prominent Arab leaders. JEM\u2019s leadership is sometimes perceived as dominated by Zaghawa. Ibrahim on Monday referred directly to attempts by Sudanese authorities to coerce or incentivize Arab tribes to fight JEM. He called on Arab tribes not to fight JEM with the weapons that the government provides.<\/p>\n
