Investigators in the Ponzi case in North Darfur are vowing justice. The commission of inquiry appointed by the Ministry of Justice to handle the Mawasir market case in El Fasher said that the law is capable of restitution, righting injustice and deterring perpetrators through legal procedures by the competent authorities. They stated that the results of their work will be revealed in the upcoming days in El Fasher. Counselor Yasser Ahmed Mohamed, the head of the commission, told reporters that the working group composed of 12 legal counselors from the ministry began its duties in El Fasher, through relevant sub-committees to conclude the case.<\/p>\n

For their part, the victims of the Mawasir scam pipes downplayed the arrival of the legal team, predicting it will not bring a quick conclusion to the issue. They noted that a large number of committees and officials have visited El Fasher, including the Minister of Justice, without finding any solutions to the Mawasir issue.  One of the victims told Radio Dabanga that the only hope now in the president’s intervention to conclude this issue which has been going on for a long time without solution.<\/p>\n

The Mawasir market was a scam that duped thousands of investors into handing over cash or property in exchange for seemingly good terms of payment in the form of cheques payable at a later date. Many investors were never paid and riots later broke out in El Fasher, which were crushed by force, killing or mortally wounding 10.<\/p>\n
