White House, Washington, DC<\/STRONG><\/P>

Hundreds of people from Darfur went on a hunger strike protest in Washington, DC, last Saturday. They spent the entire night before the White House, to draw the world’s attention to Darfur’s plight: genocide, the killing, displacement and rape. They also pointed out that the economic blockade has caused much suffering for the displaced people in the camps, as it has prevented the arrival of much needed relief for millions that have been struck in Darfur.Omar Kamaruddin Ismail, a Darfur activist in America, told Radio Dabanga, that the hunger strike protest outside the White House, was to remind the world of what is happening in Darfur. The protesters demand justice, and the prosecution of perpetrators of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in Darfur. The protesters raised banners, with the names of burned down villages in Darfur, while others carried slogans, denouncing the Sudanese<\/SPAN> President and his party.<\/P>

The Civil Alliance for a Free Darfur org<\/SPAN>anizes a peaceful march and protest before the headquarters of the European Union, on Tuesday. The demonstrators protest against the negligence of the international community, claiming it has ignored the plight of the people of Darfur. They stress that the international community has not responded to Darfur’s needs, has failed to stop war crimes, which are still continuing in Darfur and the Nuba Mountains. The protesters also criticize the international support of the Doha Agreement.<\/SPAN><\/P>

Qatari Embassi, Cairo<\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

At the Qatari Embassy in Cairo, protesters will deliver a petition to the Emir of Qatar. It explains how most people in Darfur reject the Doha Agreement, as it does not serve the interests of the Darfuri people. They urge the international community, under the auspices of an international initiative, to resolve the Darfur issue through international guarantees, including a tribunal to deal with war criminals.<\/SPAN><\/P><\/p>\n
