“Transitional Governement near completion”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abdel Wahid, founder and President of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM-AW), informed of the ongoing development of an alternative transition government together with other political parties. In an interview with Radio Dabanga, he explained that the process is now nearing completion. This intermediary political corpus aims to provide the country with a reliable temporary alternative should the current government collapse, and would be immediately followed by general elections. Mr. Wahid described the goals of the transitional government as following: achieve security throughout Sudan, establish a steady and friendly relationship with the recently created Republic of South Sudan, establishing public freedom and improve the services and pensions of citizens.<\/p>\n

“No negociations or dialogue” with the current government<\/strong><\/p>\n

On another matter, Abdul Wahid added that no negotiations or dialogue would be made with the government, which this initiative aims to overthrow. Mr. Wahid furthermore emphasized his rejection of the recently signed Doha Peace Agreement, which he qualifies of a hoax. This agreement, which was signed on the 14th<\/sup> by the government and the Liberation and Justice Movement, aims to restore peace in Darfur, an initiative Abdul Wahid doesn’t believe can be solved in this manner. \u201cPeace can only be achieved through the re-establishment of security in Darfur<\/em>,\u201d he said. \u201c The militias need to be disarmed, the illegitimate settlers expelled, compensation should be paid to the victims and the war criminals have to face trial before the International Criminal Court<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Call for an air embargo<\/strong><\/p>\n

Finally, Mr. Wahid called on international third parties to impose an air embargo over Darfur, the Nuba Mountains and other parts of Sudan in order to stop the ongoing genocide taking place in these regions. He also assured the affected populations of the SLM’s support and solidarity. The Sudanese region of South Kordofan is currently facing serious humanitarian issues, especially in the Nuba Mountains which are bombed almost everyday<\/a> by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). Thousands of people are estimated to suffer from famine, injuries and displacement, and humanitarian organizations are unable to reach them due to the ongoing conflict. Mr Wahid commented the situation by saying that other countries would only make use of their air force against exterior threats, \u201cand not by throwing rockets to their own people and children such as what is currently happening in Darfur and the Nuba Mountains<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n
