Sudanese Journalist Network condemns action, appeals for safeguarding freedom of expression in the country<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sudan’s security services confiscated two newspapers, Al Midan and Al Jarida, on Sunday after the latter had been published.Al Midan, the newspaper of the Sudanese Communist Party (SCP), complained of financial losses caused to the publishers as a result of such confiscation.<\/p>\n

The Sudanese Journalist Network (SJN) strongly condemned the continued confiscation of newspapers by the security apparatus without any reasons. It also pointed a finger at the restriction of freedom of expression guaranteed by the Constitution in the recent past.<\/p>\n

The network confirmed that the confiscation of newspapers was in violation of the Interim Constitution and international agreements ratified by Sudan.<\/p>\n

The SJN asked legal experts, human rights activists and advocates of freedom of expression to unite in order to defend freedom of expression and reduce repeated violations of it which most daily newspapers are exposed to.<\/p>\n

Last month, Radio Dabanga reported about the confiscation of the newspapers Al-Ahdath<\/a> and Al-Jarida<\/a> by the national security services.<\/p>\n
