Citizens\u2019 enquiries were met with physical retributions<\/STRONG><\/P>

The security authorities of the city of Masudiya (South of Khartoum) apparently opened fires randomly, imposed a curfew and closed down the town\u2019s trade and commercial centers on Saturday. They also beat up the citizens, including women and sheikhs.<\/P>
\n

The independent electronic newspaper Press Freedom furthermore stated that over 22 persons had been arrested by the security authorities. According to the newspaper, four police cars and five security pick-ups raided Masudiya market, closing down the totality of the town’s shops, trade and health centers, and dismissing their customers and patients.<\/P>
\n

In response to the inhabitants’ enquiries, the police and security authorities stated that a curfew had been instated, and that any potential transgressors would be met with violent retribution and arrests. To prove their intentions, the police proceeded with the arrests of four women from the market, and beat up any citizen they would meet, regardless of their age or gender.<\/P>
\n

Masudiya\u2019s inhabitants had demonstrated on Friday to protest about the soaring prices of goods and lack of electricity, which they blame on the policies of the current ruling party.<\/P>
\n
