They spent three years without facing charge or trial<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two local leaders (omdas) were released from El Fasher’s Shala prison on Monday after three years of detention without charge or trial.<\/p>\n

The two omdas, Hussein Sajo from Abou Shok camp and Adam Yahya Daw from Asalaam camp, were released on certain security conditions, according to activists in the camps.<\/p>\n

One of the activists told Radio Dabanga that Hussein Sajo was asked to step down as omda for a year, until November 2012. \u201cIf they received any complaints before this term, they would revoke his leadership forever,\u201d the activist said.<\/p>\n

During this period, Hussein Sajo has also been asked to record his attendance with the central police station in El Fasher every day.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Adam Yahya Daw has been asked to leave Asalaam camp and record his attendance with the central police station every day too.<\/p>\n

The activist told Radio Dabanga that both leaders were suffering from bad health. \u201cI met them and Hussei Sajo is suffering from diabete and Yahya Adam Daw reported high blood pressure. This is all because of the detention,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added that the conditions laid down by the authorities was unjust and unfair and a \u201cflagrant\u201d violation of the law and the constitution.<\/p>\n

61 detainees released<\/strong><\/p>\n

The release of the two omdas comes along with a general amnesty provided by the governor of North Darfur Usman Muhammed Yousuf Kibir to 61 detainees at the Shala prison during his visit to the prison.<\/p>\n

The wali, who made this announcement during his visit to the prison on occasion of Eid, said he would provide ambulances to take detainees suffering from poor health to the hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n

He also promised to solve the water problem in the prison. Also the wali visited the women’s prison Al Kher Khanaga and said he would release five women from the prison.<\/p>\n
