16,000 refugees fleeing violence from Nuba Mountains and South Kordofan were seeking shelter in the settlement<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Sudanese Air Force (SAF) targeted Ida refugee camp in South Sudan’s Unity state which housed refugees from Sudan’s Nuba Mountains and South Kordofan on Thursday afternoon, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) told Radio Dabanga.<\/p>\n

Arno Nuguthulu, spokesperson of the SPLM-N, told Radio Dabanga that there were no casualties in the attack. The refugee camp that was attacked held 16,000 refugees from the conflict stricken areas of Nuba Mountains and South Kordofan.<\/p>\n

Arno said, \u201cThe SAF dropped four bombs that fell near a school inside the camp. Three of the bombs exploded in the presence of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) staff.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that though the raids did not cause any deaths or casualties, it raised panic among the refugees. \u201cI condemn the government’s targeting and prosecution of refugees who are fleeing from the horrors of Sudan to another country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Arno demanded the international community intervene immediately to protect refugees who sought refuge in neighboring countries and to pressure the government to stop air strikes and targeting of refugees.<\/p>\n
