Says it is supporting aggressors and war criminals instead of victims<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) expressed regret on Wednesday over the United Nations’ reaction to the formation of Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF).<\/p>\n

Yasser Arman, secretary-general of the SPLM-N, said in a statement that the group deeply regrets UN’s position. “Instead of supporting the victims and the right of the Sudanese people to democracy and the respect for human rights and the rule of law, it is supporting the aggressors and war criminals. On top of them is Bashir who is wanted by the ICC,” he said.<\/p>\n

Arman’s words come as a reaction to UN secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon’s statement on Monday<\/a> when the latter condemned the SRF.<\/p>\n

The SRF is a coalition formed by armed opposition groups in Sudan <\/a>with an aim to overthrow the government in Khartoum.<\/p>\n

Arman who leads the SPLM-N, which is part of the newly formed coalition, said, “We are expecting the UN to help by bringing them to justice and by protecting civilians and by opening corridors for food. The UN is expected to stand against impunity.”<\/p>\n

Herve Ladsous, head of the UN peacekeeping operations, had also said on Tuesday that the new alliance was “counterproductive” and could “trigger more violence.” He told Reuters news agency, “The United Nations continues to emphasize that all parties in the conflict must return to the negotiating table and resolve their differences through political dialogue.<\/p>\n
