The Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) led by Tijani Sissi, the head of the Darfur Regional Authority said that six LJM soldiers were killed, and another three injured in an attack carried out by the Sudan Liberation Movement faction led by Abdel Wahid (SLM-AW).<\/p>\n
The attack reportedly happened at an LJM camp in Tongoro, seven kilometres south-west of Korma in North Darfur on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Ahmed Fadel, deputy minister at the<\/span> council of ministers<\/span> and official LJM spokesperson strongly condemned the attack and said LJM soldiers were also captured in the fighting. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Speaking to Radio Dabanga, Fadel said the prisoners were moved to Jebel Marra.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n He described the attack as shameful and said the LJM remains committed to a ceasefire and peace in Darfur with signatory and non-signatory parties since it signed the Doha Document for Peace.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The spokesman said the SLM-AW will have to bear full responsibility for the attack, which he claimed will ‘open the door to wider conflict in the region and stressed that the LJM will respond at a suitable time and place.’<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n SLM-AW ‘has no orders to attack LJM’<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The SLM-AW categorically denied that it may have attacked LJM troops in Korma.<\/span><\/p>\n The movement said SLM-AW were fighting government forces in the Derma area, near Korma, destroying six vehicles and seizing one, along with weapons and prisoners of the government forces.<\/span><\/p>\n SLM-AW spokesman, Nimir Abdel Rahman told Radio Dabanga the movement did not attack the LJM, but attacked government soldiers that have arrived in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n He noted that Korma was previously under the control of the Liberation and Justice Movement and was lost in battles with the government.<\/span><\/p>\n Nimir also accused the government of creating fighters under the auspices of the LJM name, to try to encourage infighting between Darfuri rebel groups.<\/span><\/p>\n He said the SLM-AW does not want to fight the LJM, and has no instructions or orders to do so.<\/span><\/p>\n The SLM-AW spokesman also said that Darfuri citizens and the international community alike, know fully well that the LJM does not have any troops on the ground.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
