American actor George Clooney told the US senate that the Sudanese government is committing 'war crimes' in South Kordofan and Blue Nile.<\/p>\n

The actor told a foreign affairs committee hearing on Wednesday that 'Al Bashir and his henchman have proved to be the biggest war criminals of this century so far' and called on the US to freeze bank accounts around the world belonging to indicted Sudanese officials.<\/p>\n

Clooney made a visit to the troubled region last week in cooperation with the enough project<\/u><\/a>, smuggling in through Yida refugee camp in South Sudan over the border into South Kordofan.<\/p>\n

He criticised President Obama for not taking stronger action which he said encouraged Al Bashir to indiscriminately kill more civilians.<\/p>\n

Clooney said Al Bashir must see that the US is taking serious steps and call for a no-fly zone over the troubled states.<\/p>\n

Aid experts have warned that the humanitarian situation in Blue Nile and South Kordofan for around 250,000 people will reach near famine status in the next few weeks if aid is not allowed into the region.<\/p>\n

The Sudanese foreign ministry spokesman El Obeid Marawih responded saying the government does not respond to 'pressure groups' and it will wait to hear what the US special envoy Princeton Lyman has to say.<\/p>\n
