Displaced people in Kalma camp are refusing to participate in the conference in Nyala at the end of this month as they find the timing ‘inappropriate’.<\/p>\n

The priority now should be to achieve security and disarm militia groups that continue to terrorise the camps, rather than focus on holding this conference, said Kalma’s humanitarian coordinator.<\/p>\n

‘Kalma chose not to be involved in the Doha process and will not implement any part of the Doha agreement in light of the continued abuses and lack of freedom, how exactly are displaced people expected to get out of the camps and participate in such a conference?’, asked the coordinator.<\/p>\n

He added that the conference will not represent all displaced people but only the opinion of each individual taking part.<\/p>\n

‘Provide security first’
<\/strong><\/p>\n

Displaced people in Gereida camps also said this meeting does not reflect their current priorities or represent them and they will not recognise its results.<\/p>\n

‘The priority is to provide security, health care and food for displaced people rather than random conferences’.<\/p>\n

‘Gereida displaced people wil not participate because they don’t trust the ruling party or the Doha agreement signatories’, added the Gereida spokesman.<\/p>\n
