A paramilitary militia attacked, threatened and looted farmer’s properties in the Muhajariya area of South Darfur. A witness told Radio Dabanga that gunmen on camels<\/a> opened fire at a farmer named Mahmoud Saleh Hassan. The gunmen opened fire at him while he was on the way to his farm. He died on the spot. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

According to the witness the armed attacks on farms happen regularly. The witness added that the farmers are often threatened with death if they are to return to their lands that are seen by the gunmen as liberated lands belonging to them now. Also, the witness told Radio Dabanga that he appealed to UNAMID to take urgent action and protect the farmers from attacks by armed militias. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Farmers from Bir Dagiq and Kundebe have called upon the government as well as the UNAMID for an immediate intervention to protect them and their farms from cattle herders’ attacks. A female farmer told Radio Dabanga that herders would walk their cattle within their farms, after a woman got severely beaten at Bir Dagiq. The woman was also forced to pay a compensation amount of ten million pounds, for injuring a camel.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

On another note, heavy torrential rainfalls caused the death of a farmer named Abbeker at Fur Baranga area in West Darfur. A resident of the Fur Baranga area recounted to Radio Dabanga that the torrential rains in the area haven’t caused major damages to farms or livestock. He did complain about the high commodity and food prices<\/a>, describing the situation as very difficult. <\/p>\n
