Farmers from the Bir Klab village in El-Geneina Locality, West Darfur, informed Radio Dabanga today that armed herders forced them to pay 10 million Sudanese Pounds (SDG) as compensation for a camel’s injury. They added the herders threatened to loot their village if the amount was not paid.<\/p>\n

A farmer explained to Radio Dabanga that he hurt the camel with a stick as he expelled it from his land. He said that armed herders are now asking him 10 million SDG to compensate for the camel’s leg injury. The farmer added that herders threatened to attack the Bir Klab village if the requested amount is not paid.<\/p>\n

In order to prevent the conflict from escalating, the farmer said, him and other farmers agreed to pay the herders. The farmers affirmed they will pay the herders 10 million SDG in two terms, 5 million SDG now and the other half in one month.<\/p>\n

The farmers from Bir Klab called on local authorities and on the state government to enforce the law equally and neutrally to everyone. They also asked that authorities do not consent that anyone takes judicial matters in their own hands.<\/p>\n
