On Tuesday, 11 September, Radio Dabanga was informed about separate attacks by gunmen around Kabkabiya locality, North Darfur. Witnesses affirmed that three incidents took place, leaving eight dead and several injured. The commissioner of Kabkabiya locality informed Sudan News Agency (SUNA) that 11 people got killed and eight got injured by gunmen in two separate events in the area.<\/p>\n
According to witnesses, the first incident took place in the Uri mining area, where five people got killed and several got injured. They said unidentified gunmen, driving Land Cruisers, opened fire against gold seekers and ransacked all of their possessions.<\/p>\n
The second incident, according to witnesses speaking to Radio Dabanga from Kabkabiya, took place in an area called El-Hara, north of Kutum. They said three people died when gunmen opened fire against them. Onlookers said the victims were on their way to Kabkabiya and that the perpetrators seized their vehicle, their belongings and fled to an unknown destination.<\/p>\n
According to sources, a third incident took place on the same day in Kabkabiya locality. They said two people got injured when traveling from Kutum to Jebel \u2018Amer, a gold mine area. Onlookers said the victims, driving motorcycles, were attacked by gunmen, who stole all of the victims\u2019 belongings and then fled leaving them behind.<\/p>\n
Kabkabiya\u2019s commissioner<\/strong><\/p>\n The commissioner of Kabkabiya locality told SUNA that 11 people got killed and eight got injured by gunmen in two separate events in the area. It was reported that the commissioner accused the Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF) for the attacks. The SRF called the accusations \u201cfalse\u201d when speaking to Radio Dabanga.<\/p>\n Kabkabiya’s commissioner, Adam Saleh Adam, said the first incident took place in Uri, a traditional mining area located south of Kabkabiya, in which eight gold seekers were killed when gunmen opened fire against them.<\/p>\n Commissioner Adam said the second incident took place on a road between Kabkabiya and Nyala, in which three people died and six got injured. He explained that these people were traveling in a convoy of trade vehicles when they were attacked by gunmen, who seized the vehicles and its goods.<\/p>\n When speaking to SUNA, Adam Saleh Adam blamed the SRF for the attacks in Kabkabiya locality.<\/p>\n Sudanese Revolutionary Front<\/strong><\/p>\n Radio Dabanga spoke to Adam Saleh Abaker, spokesman of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM)-Minni Minnawi, a coalition member of the SRF. He denied the commissioner’s accusations and stated they have no links with what happened in Kabkabiya. Adam Saleh Abaker added that it is impossible the SRF committed those crimes because they are not currently in the area.<\/p>\n The SLM’s spokesman accused the National Congress Party (NCP) and its militias of committing the crimes, as they are in the area and have full control of the roads that lead to Kabkabiya. Lastly, Adam Saleh Abaker stated that the SRF would not attack people from Darfur because they actually fight for them.<\/p>\n
