An armed group attacked four young men in Zalingei, Central Darfur, on Saturday September 15. A witness informed Radio Dabanga that the four gunmen, believed to be pro-government, opened fire on the young men inside their home, in the ‘Hay el-Mowazafeen’ (staff district) in Zalingei.<\/p>\n
He explained that the attack killed both Salah Idris, a water seller, and Bella, a bakery worker. Two brothers, Mohamed and Hassan Yahya, were injured during the attack. The two brothers were taken to Zalingei hospital for treatment. The witness said that the gunmen looted 3 million Sudanese Pounds (SDG) from the deceased bakery worker Bella.<\/p>\n
On another note, an angry crowd of mourners demonstrated on Saturday, denouncing the incident and demanding a regime change. \u201cA thousand martyrs for a new era\u201d, the crowd chanted.<\/p>\n
A witness told Radio Dabanga that the protesters stormed a government building as well as the National Congress Party (NCP) headquarters. They forced NCP members to flee and seek refuge with the military police. <\/p>\n
Shopkeepers join protest<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n He noted that Zalingei market traders closed their shops and joined the protesters. The witness disclosed that the citizens intend to continue their protest on Monday September 17. The protest is organized to denounce and condemn the deteriorating security situation in the region as well as the recurrent killings of citizens.<\/p>\n On his part, Yaser Hassan Satti, local commissioner of Zalingei, acknowledged that the incident took place and revealed that the perpetrators raided the house of the young men at dawn. Two of the young men were killed; one of them from Kass area and the other from Rokero area in Jebel Marra and the other two were injured.<\/p>\n The commissioner added to Radio Dabanga that one of the fatal victims was a staff member of the local commissioner’s office in Zalingei. He pointed out that the police was able to arrest two suspects.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
