Sources from Hashaba, Kutum locality, North Darfur, reported seeing clouds of smoke rising from nearby villages on Thursday afternoon, 27 September, after the Sudanese air force bombed the area. Since Wednesday, 60 civilians have died and more than 50 got injured, Radio Dabanga was informed. A source added that hundreds are missing.<\/p>\n

A farmer from Hashaba told Radio Dabanga he saw a MiG plane bombing the area at about 11am on Thursday and the nearby Khashm valley being shelled at about 6pm the same day.<\/p>\n

Hashaba residents appealed to the UN Security Council to intervene and pressure the government of Sudan to stop the aerial bombings on civilians.<\/p>\n

They also asked that pro-government militias are disarmed and that perpetrators are brought to justice to the International Criminal Court in the Hague, the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

A local leader called the recent events a \u201cgenocide\u201d, stressing that action against it must be taken on both local and international levels. <\/span><\/p>\n

He also said that the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) must overthrow the regime in Khartoum. <\/span><\/p>\n
