A number of displaced persons from Bindessey camp in Central Darfur were beaten, tortured and had their belongings looted by gunmen on horses and camels, sources told Radio Dabanga on Monday October 8.<\/p>\n
Three of the displaced persons went missing after the attack, witnesses added.<\/p>\n
According to onlookers, an armed group wearing military uniforms ambushed the displaced at around five o’clock on Monday evening.<\/p>\n
They said the displaced were on their way to the shopping area from Bindessey camp when the armed group fired heavily in the air before beating them with their rifle butts and whips. In addition, the gunmen looted the victims’ belongings, such as mobile phones, and an amount of three million Sudanese Pounds.<\/p>\n
The attack is not the first of its kind, the witness added, and pointed out there were more than ten similar attacks at the camp in the last month.<\/p>\n
A camp delegation said they will visit UNAMID’s compound in Mukjar, Central Darfur, to request the establishment of a protection force for the displaced and their belongings.<\/p>\n
Random shooting injures female student<\/strong><\/p>\n A displaced female student from camp Bindessey in Central Darfur was shot as a result of random shots fired by joint Sudanese-Chadian forces, sources told Radio Dabanga on Saturday, 6 October.<\/p>\n They said the 16 year-old student Fatima Mohamed Ahmed, got injured as a bullet broke her right leg.<\/p>\n The incident happened when a vehicle of the joint forces broke down inside the camp, witnesses explained, adding that at that point the soldiers started firing randomly in several directions. The reason for the incident remains unclear.<\/p>\n According to witnesses, the shooting caused extreme panic and fear among local residents.<\/p>\n Seven gunmen attack Kalma camp<\/strong><\/p>\n Saleh Ishaq Yahya from Kalma camp in South Darfur, was stabbed and beaten when the camp was attacked by seven gunmen in military uniforms on Tuesday.<\/p>\n Saleh was attacked while he was working at his farm near the camp, one of his relatives told Radio Dabanga. Saleh was taken to the hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
