A nomad workshop focused on strategic development plan was held in Geneva, Switzerland, on Wednesday 17 October, according to a UNAMID press release.<\/p>\n

The workshop served as a platform to address the critical role nomads play in the peace process and to determine the best way forward for these mobile communities, the statement read.<\/p>\n

Representatives from the UNAMID, UN agencies, international nongovernmental organizations and nomadic leaders were reportedly present.<\/p>\n

While addressing the workshop, the head of the North Darfur Nomads Network, Haussan Abd al-Ziz stated that \u201csupport to nomads will contribute to resolving the Darfur problem\u201d.<\/p>\n

At the same time, an UNAMID officer stated that \u201cthe international community has a moral obligation to support nomads, but wants to see [them] committed to peace in the region and not engage in violence.\u201d<\/p>\n

A representative of the nomadic women expressed the need of involving them directly in the peace process.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, representatives from the UN Development Programme committed to prioritizing the nomadic community\u2019s needs in its administration of the Darfur Community Peace and Stability Fund.<\/p>\n
