Fuel prices have gone up in the states of West and South Darfur, causing a transport crisis and scarcity of electricity and water, Radio Dabanga learned on Sunday November 25.<\/p>\n

State officials attribute the crisis of rising prices to the delay in arrival of the trade convoy. The price of gasoline has gone up from 22 to 40 Sudanese Pounds (SDG), increasing the price of a barrel of gasoline from 800 SDG to 1000 SDG.<\/p>\n

A number of residents have complained about the suffering they have to endure due to the lack of fuel and the reluctance of state governments to provide the required quantities. The residents demand an investigation of the crisis and asked the state officials to conduct it.<\/p>\n

On his part, Adam Mohamed Adam, State Minister of Finance, acknowledged the existence of the crisis and attributes it to the delay in arrival<\/a> of the commercial trade convoy to Babanusa.<\/p>\n

West Darfur<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sources from El-Geneina in West Darfur told Radio Dabanga that the price of a gasoline tin has gone up from 100 SDG to 140 SDG, adding that the price of local transport has doubled as a result of the price increase.<\/p>\n

The sources added that the increased costs of living cause additional problems for the citizens, especially in regards to the rising prices of consumer goods and lack of employment opportunities.<\/p>\n

The citzens appealed to the authorities for an immediate intervention to address the crisis ‘before it is too late’, they added to Radio Dabanga.<\/p>\n
