Security services have reportedly arrested three female students from Darfur inside the campus of the University of Khartoum on Tuesday, 4 December, Radio Dabanga has learned.<\/p>\n

Onlookers said the students, released on Wednesday at noon, were accused of causing trouble and public rioting. They added the security services beat them with batons and used tear gas.<\/p>\n

A witness told Radio Dabanga that a policeman who controls the students\u00b4 movements in and out of the campus slapped a student on the face because she did not have her identification card immediately at hand.<\/p>\n

This led girls from the campus to protest against the assault and the riot police was called to disperse the students, a source explained.<\/p>\n

One of the students told Radio Dabanga the police and security services have recently assaulted them inside the campus, stressing they were kicked, slapped and insulted.<\/p>\n

According to sources, the three arrested students are: Rafidah Abdul Aziz, Jawara Hassan Suleiman and Zuwarah Yusuf, all of the come from Nyala, South Darfur.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, human rights experts and activists condemned the behavior of the police, suggesting they protect criminals and not students. They described these events as criminal and inhumane\u2019.<\/p>\n
