Displaced, sheikhs, omdas and camp\u2019s representatives from Zam Zam, North Darfur, presented a package of demands and needs to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees that was visiting the site, an activist told Radio Dabanga.<\/p>\n
A representative for humanitarian affairs from the government of Sudan, Abdullah Suleiman, accompanied the UNHCR during the visit on Tuesday, 11 December, the activist affirmed.<\/p>\n
The UN agency reportedly visited the camp to find out problems the displaced face and subsequently inform donor countries and peace partners about them.<\/p>\n
According to the displaced, they are suffering from shortage of food rations, drinking water, health centers, and medical and educational services. The continuous flow of people to the camp and intense daily violence are also problems the displaced complained about.<\/p>\n
On the same day, the UNHCR representative and other humanitarian organizations spoke to about 1.350 displaced persons who had arrived from East Jebel Marra to Zam Zam, the activist said. The agencies wanted to find out about their humanitarian situation, he completed.<\/p>\n
Zam Zam\u2019s newcomers demanded that the UNHCR finds a solution to the demands of the displaced and asked that their promises are not \u201cfutile\u201d.<\/p>\n
