A delegation of donors, consisting of representatives from Pakistan, Jordan, Libya and Australia, headed by the International Commitee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have visited Kalma camp in South Darfur on Wednesday, 19 December.<\/p>\n
The delegation met with representatives of all of the camp’s segments. Hussein Abu Sharati, spokesman for the affairs of displaced persons and refugees, told Radio Dabanga that the delegation enquired whether to accept the aid offered by Arab and Islamic states as the displaced might be unwilling to receive aid from these countries.<\/p>\n
He added that the displaced replied they welcome assistance from all sides, but have reservations about the countries that provide assistance through the government of Sudan because it reportedly does not reach them.<\/p>\n
Also, he explained that the displaced submitted specific written demands to the ICRC and all donor who attended the meeting after being briefed on all camp facilities such as schools and health centers. The delegation reportedly understood their reservations and promised to meet their demands through the ICRC as soon as possible, he said.<\/p>\n
Abu Sharati stated that the demands presented to the donors and the ICRC at the meeting in Kalma camp include speeding up solving the interruption in food distribution the residents are facing, supporting education among widows and orphan children in particular, along with the need to focus on the health aspect and to solve the problem of youth unemployment and provision of clean drinking water.<\/p>\n
