Sudanese opposition forces signed an agreement to topple the regime of the National Congress Party (NCP) and to jointly rule the country before democratic elections will be held.<\/P>
\n

Representatives of the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) and the coalition of National Consensus Forces (NCF) met in the Ugandan capital of Kampala to discuss reuniting their efforts in bringing down the regime in Khartoum.<\/P>
\n

‘New Dawn Charter’<\/STRONG><\/P>

It was reported that delegates of the NCF and the SRF, as well as delegates of women, youth and other civil society groups signed the ‘New Dawn Charter’ agreement after five days of deliberating.<\/P>
\n

The Charter calls for overthrowing the regime through ‘political and armed struggle’. The document also provides that the SRF alliance, as well as the NCF coalition, will support ‘the peaceful mass action and its transformation to a peaceful popular uprising’.<\/P>
\n

Furthermore, the signatories decided to form a transitional council for coordination purposes between them. The Charter calls for establishing a solid relationship with neighboring South Sudan, based on shared interests, social and historic relations.<\/P>
\n

At the same time, the Umma Party of Sadiq Al-Mahdi said the process towards a democratic transition in the country should include the NCP and was very critical to the use of arms to topple the regime. Last November, the SPLM-N and the Umma Party signed a joint statement calling for non-violent action.<\/P>

‘Peaceful uprising by a joint action’ <\/STRONG><\/P>
\n

In a statement issued on Saturday, Yaser Arman, secretary-general of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement -North, integrated in the SRF, said that the signatories of the charter ‘agreed to reinforce a peaceful uprising by a joint action’.<\/P>
\n

He called on the Sudanese people to support this move ‘to end the war and to bring peace and democracy to the country’. Lastly, he called upon the international community to support the unity of the Sudanese opposition and the New Dawn Charter to achieve peace, democracy and stability.
