UNAMID and the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) held a meeting in El-Fasher, North Darfur\u2019s capital, at the Mission’s headquarters on 19 February, a UNAMID press release reads.<\/p>\n
The two main focuses during the summit were the strengthening of mechanisms to protect civilians and joint initiatives to support the implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD).<\/p>\n
In the event participants discussed about \u201cways to engage with different stakeholders in support of the Doha Donor\u2019s Conference for development in Darfur, (\u2026) and the Darfur Joint Assessment Mission\u2019s evaluation and submission of projects for immediate implementation in Darfur\u201d, as quoted in a Mission\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n
In addition, they welcomed the recent temporary ceasefire agreement between the Sudanese government and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) splinter group within the DDPD framework.<\/p>\n
The parties also agreed to develop a humanitarian access mechanism for Darfur, including a larger UNCT-UNAMID presence in the deep field and \u201crevisited\u201d the issue of humanitarian access to Darfur by UNCT and Sudan\u2019s international partners. <\/p>\n
The event was co-chaired by UNAMID Acting Joint Special Representative and Joint Chief Mediator a.i. Aichatou Mindaoudou and UN Resident Coordinator\/Humanitarian Coordinator and UN Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Sudan Ali Al-Za\u2019tari.<\/p>\n
