The commissioner of Al Sareif Beni Hussein, Haroun Hussein Jameh, announced that all roads leading to Al Sareif have been reopened after the recent clashes. The decision to reopen the roads follows the forum held in Saraf Omra on Friday, where all parties involved in the conflict gathered, the commissioner added.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Radio Dabanga the commissioner said \u201cthe parties renewed their commitment to the ceasefire agreement\u201d and added that \u201cthe forum emphasized the need to overcome the bitterness and defuse the crisis completely.\u201d He stated that the parties agreed to participate in a conference on 15 April in El Fasher and that it was agreed to establish a joint mechanism to monitor the cessation of the hostilities. The joint mechanism will be composed of representatives of five localities in addition to a number of state representatives from West and Central Darfur.<\/p>\n

The commissioner also revealed that an exchange of prisoners had taken place on Friday and stated that \u2018life had returned to normal\u2019 in Al Sareif.<\/p>\n

Hussein Jameh said Al Sareif is hosting about 15,000 displaced families, approximately 90,000 persons, in addition to the displaced in other towns such as Kabkabiya, Saraf Omra, Abu Gamra, Ghara Zawiya and Abu Liha. According to the commissioner, large numbers of displaced are returning to Al Sareif from the areas of Abu Gamra, Abu Liha and Ghara Zawiya.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that some food aid and non-food materials have been distributed and claimed that about 90 percent of the displaced have received materials for shelter. The commissioner stated that approximately 10,000 families have received food while the remaining families did not get anything. He appealed to the authorities and other concerned parties to urgently deliver food aid and shelter materials to the area.<\/p>\n
