Three militiamen who had attacked a resident of Kabkabiya (North Darfur) were arrested by the Sudanese army after an exchange of fire on Tuesday afternoon. The fourth perpetrator, an onlooker said, fled to an unknown destination.<\/p>\n

Following the assault inside his home in the district of Ghordjin, the victim Seifedin, was injured and taken to a hospital, sources told Radio Dabanga. The event terrorized the neighborhood\u2019s residents and led to the closure of a local market.  <\/p>\n

Kabkabiya residents are demanding local authorities to provide them security and protect civilians from militias, who they say are \u201ccommitting crimes almost on a daily basis in the city\u201d.<\/p>\n

The reason behind the attack on Seifedin remains unclear.<\/p>\n

On 1 March 68 owners of commercial vehicles operating in Kabkabiya city protested against attacks by pro-government militias who try stealing their vehicles at gunpoint.<\/p>\n

Days before, citizens had asked the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) to protect them against violations by militias.<\/p>\n
