The locality of Shattai in South Darfur is witnessing a \u201cgreat\u201d school drop out caused by water scarcity as some families remove their children from classes to fetch water.<\/p>\n

The journey on the back of animals may take more than three hours each day, according to Adam Ibrahim Shatta, the director of a basic school in the locality.<\/p>\n

There are approximately 4.000 students in the locality, the director said, adding that 121 of them took examinations in the area this year, 274 of them must travel to centers in Kass, and the rest are drop outs.<\/p>\n

He also noted, when speaking to Radio Dabanga, that eight schools have closed in the 10 years of war in Darfur and added that Shattai locality does not have secondary schools for boys or girls.<\/p>\n

Separately, Yaqoub Mursal Tagal, the commissioner of Bielel locality in South Darfur announced that 3.000 displaced students sat for primary level examinations this year. They come from the camps Attash, Dreige and Kalma.<\/p>\n
