Residents of two displaced camps in Central Darfur were prevented by the Sudanese security forces to join Friday\u2019s protests against the timing of the upcoming donors\u2019 conference in Doha. Authorities arrested 10 people and threatened to kill those who demonstrated.<\/p>\n

Sources of Garsila and Bindisi camps told Radio Dabanga they planned to join other camps across Darfur in their protests against the Doha summit on Friday.<\/p>\n

However, members of the security services entered Garsila on Thursday afternoon and arrested the displaced Abdel Azim Omar Younis. Meanwhile, they chased other individuals and threatened to kill them if they decided to stage protests.<\/p>\n

Despite the \u201charassment\u201d some residents of Garsila are said to have printed out and distributed a memorandum with the main demands of the displaced before any conference takes place.<\/p>\n

These demands comprise the enforcement of security, disarmament of militias, expulsion of new settlers from their lands of origin, trial of perpetrators, and the end of genocide, displacement, systematic rapes and aerial bombardments.<\/p>\n

In Bindisi, sources said that 10 people were arrested prior to the protests, including an omda and some youngsters; all of whom were held for three and a half hours. Also residents of this camp were threatened to be killed if they decided to rally against the donors\u2019 conference.<\/p>\n

On Friday, thousands of displaced persons across Darfur staged protests against the timing of the donors\u2019 conference. They say the region continues to witness genocide, war, killings, displacement and rape amid the absence of security and of a comprehensive peace agreement.<\/p>\n
