Female residents of North Darfur\u2019s Kassab camp were victims of two different rape attempts made by \u201cpro-government militias\u201d on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The first successful attempt occurred when the victim was returning home after shopping in Kutum.<\/p>\n
Sources said she was blindfolded by \u201cAbbala\u201d militias who raped her while in custody until she was freed on Monday.<\/p>\n
In the second occasion, Abbala gunmen ambushed a group of five women -three elders and two of their daughters- who were collecting firewood north of Kassab. <\/p>\n
The young victims managed to escape the ambush and the attackers, claiming the older women were \u201cnot good for raping\u201d, decided to beat them instead, a source told Radio Dabanga.<\/p>\n
They were assaulted with rifle butts, and whips, besides being kicked, slapped and verbally abused, a Kassab source said.<\/p>\n
An activist pointed out to the increasing amount of attacks against displaced persons, \u201cespecially against women\u201d, in the past weeks.<\/p>\n
He is urging UNAMID and authorities to protect the displaced and arrest perpetrators. <\/p>\n
Military uniforms <\/strong><\/p>\n On Saturday, armed militias \u201cwearing military uniforms severely beat\u201d five displaced who were collecting firewood in Kutum locality.<\/p>\n One of the victims said the displaced reside in the Al Jeer and Mattar districts in Kabkabiya.
