This is Chambas\u2019 first field trip since he assumed his post one month ago.<\/p>\n<p>During the period of 22 to 30 April UNAMID Joint Special Representative met with representatives of internally displaced persons, traditional leaders, state authorities and UNAMID staff in Darfur, a statement reads.<\/p>\n<p>In Shangil Tobay, North Darfur, Chambas met with camps\u2019 leaders to discuss matters related to their protection. \u201cThe best solution to the conflict in Darfur is to achieve a lasting peace, allowing conditions to normalize so that citizens can live without fear or intimidation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Next, UNAMID\u2019s head visited the Kalma camp for displaced in South Darfur where he reassured the population of the mission\u2019s commitment to protect civilians, as quoted in a press release.
