The newly displaced persons who arrived at El Salam camp for the displaced have effectively doubled the Nyala population, one of the camp\u2019s sheiks told Radio Dabanga.<\/p>\n

Thousands of people have fled their homes following clashes which erupted in the beginning of May between members of the Tarjam and Fur tribes in South Darfur. Most have arrived at the camps near to Nyala, which are struggling to cope with the influx.<\/p>\n

\u201cThousands of families are now suffering under poor humanitarian conditions,\u201d said Sheik <\/strong>Mahjoub Ada<\/span>m Tabaldiya. \u201cThey are without food or tents, and the situation is made worse by an acute shortage of drinking water.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that on Sunday, only 250 families received some aid which was limited to less than a malwa<\/em> (3 kg) of sorghum per person. \u201cThe rest have not received any aid at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sheikh Tabaldiya appealed to humanitarian organisations to speed-up the provision of relief to the displaced.<\/p>\n
