Sudanese President Omar Al Bashir announced via the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) on Monday that \u201cas of today, there will not be recognition of negotiation with the traitors, agents, mercenaries and terrorists of the North Sector, the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) or Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) and SPLM-N\u201d.<\/p>\n

This contradicts Bashir\u2019s pledge at the opening of Parliament on 1 April \u201cto engage with all political bodies and civil society groups without exception, including with groups that have taken up arms against his regime.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Bashir was addressing what the SUNA termed \u201ca spontaneous mass rally\u201d at the headquarters of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) \u201cin celebration of the liberation of Abu Karshola\u201d. It was also attended by the vice president, several senior government officials and commanders of the armed forces.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his emotional address, Al Bashir said that cooperation agreements signed with the government of South Sudan \u201cwill be implemented as one package\u201d, and he warned the South Sudan government that he \u201cwill close down the oil pipeline\u201d if South Sudan \u201ccontinues to support and harbour the rebel movements in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jibril Adam Bilal spokesman for the JEM told Radio Dabanga that Bashir\u2019s rhetoric was \u201cno news\u201d to his movement. \u201cThe JEM decided a long time ago that our objective was to overthrow Bashir and his regime, so we have no desire for dialogue with him in any case.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
