Harsh climatic conditions have prompted the displaced of Kassab camp in North Darfur to issue an urgent plea for aid, and especially plastic sheeting.<\/p>\n
\u201cWaves of dust and regular whirlwinds have lashed the camp for days,\u201d an activist at the camp told Radio Dabanga. \u201cThese weather conditions have stretched our resources to the limit, and with the rainy season approaching fast, we are now suffering from a severe shortage of materials to provide basic shelter, such as tarpaulins.\u201d<\/p>\n
The displaced at the camp have appealed to all organisations working in Darfur and the competent authorities especially the UNHCR and GOAL, to expedite the distribution of plastic sheets.<\/p>\n
From a healthcare perspective, the activist explained that diseases such as diarrhoea and pneumonia are spreading in the camp, aggravated by the weather which fluctuates between hot and cold.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are also insect infestations which present a real health threat, so we need the necessary pesticides to combat them.\u201d<\/p>\n
The displaced of the camp expressed their thanks to GOAL for assisting them in cleaning the camp and providing them with hygiene aids. The campaign, in collaboration with the youth, sheikhs and women, will continue until next week.<\/p>\n
