The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Ali Al Zatari, has expressed \u201cshock and sorrow at the killing of a staff member of a humanitarian non-governmental organisation on 9 June 2013 in North Camp, Nertiti, Central Darfur\u201d.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Tuesday, Al Sadari offered his sincere condolences to the family of the staff member killed and urged the authorities concerned to bring the perpetrators to justice.<\/p>\n

\u201cI strongly condemn this senseless crime,\u201d said Al Zatari. \u201cThe killing of this aid worker, and the injury of several other civilians, occurred because an exchange of fire took place in a camp for people displaced by fighting in Darfur.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe civilian and humanitarian nature of these camps must be respected. The people living in these camps should not be subjected to any acts of violence. It is the responsibility of all parties to ensure a safe and secure environment for all those living and working in the camps,\u201d Al Zatari said.<\/p>\n

Radio Dabanga reported on Monday on the incident, that occurred on Sunday night. Formations of pro-government militias and government troops (SAF) apparently attacked camp Nertiti North for displaced people in Central Darfur, killing a doctor, injuring 15 residents, and torching the medical nutrition centre and 54 houses.<\/p>\n

Dr Adam Mohamed Hamid was the medical director of the camp\u2019s nutrition centre, which belongs to a foreign organisation that works with children.<\/p>\n
