A merchant and another civilian were injured on Monday when pro-government militiamen reportedly opened fire on a group of vehicles travelling to Shergeila market in South Darfur.<\/p>\n
A witness told Radio Dabanga that merchant Abdullah Ibrahim Benson from Girayda locality was seriously injured in the attack, as well as Abkar Bakhit. Ibrahim was transferred to Nyala hospital while Bakhit was transferred to Girayda hospital. The witness described the security situation in the area as \u201cworse than ever this year,\u201d and appealed via Radio Dabanga for Unamid to provide security and long-range patrols.<\/p>\n
The 3,000 newly displaced persons in the Girayda camps for displaced persons in South Darfur are suffering from a shortage of food and drinking water. The camps\u2019 leaders have called on international organisations to expedite the provision of humanitarian assistance as wells as the drilling of wells.<\/p>\n
One of the leaders told Radio Dabanga that the food and water shortage for the newly displaced in the camps of Donkey Dereisa, Abu Jabra, Tabeldiya, Umm Dukhun and Anteckaina has lasted for about a month and a half.<\/p>\n
They have not been aided by any humanitarian organisation. He pointed out that while the Red Crescent registered their names it has not provided them with any food. The leader appealed to humanitarian and aid organisations to provide urgent support to save the newly displaced.<\/p>\n
