The displaced of Dreige camp in Nyala, South Darfur, have called for the resignation of the State Governor and his team for \u201cfailing to protect them from attacks from pro-government militias\u201d.<\/p>\n

A representative of the youth of the camp told Radio Dabanga on Tuesday yesterday that the displaced people of Dreige and other camps are subject to \u201ccontinuous attacks by pro-government militias that murder and rob the displaced.\u201d<\/p>\n

He described the government of South Darfur state as \u201cirresponsible and failed\u201d. Referring to the most recent attack on Monday which, as previously reported by Radio Dabanga, left four displaced people dead and nine more injured, he said that \u201cin spite of all these abuses practiced against us, the state authorities failed to protect us\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe as displaced persons demand from the Governor of South Darfur governor, Major General Adam Mahmoud Jar Al Nabi and his government to submit their resignations because, besides their failure to protect us, they have also failed to provide health, education, food and drink.\u201d<\/p>\n

The displaced of Dreige camp also demand the Unamid to play its role in protecting the displaced people. The youth leader said \u201cUnamid\u2019s silence about the violations is a disaster\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnamid is entrusted with the duty of protecting the displaced persons from attacks by militias, with a mandate from the Security Council, however whenever we notify Unamid of an incident, they tell us that it is only their job to write reports,\u201d he complained.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur life has become unbearable as we have the sea ahead of us, the enemy behind us, and we have no weapons to protect ourselves,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
