A policeman was shot dead, allegedly by pro-government militiamen, at Kabkabiya market in North Darfur on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Several witnesses told radio Dabanga that the police officer, Mustapha Ibrahim Jabra, was shot by militiamen riding motorcycles as he patrolled inside Kabkabiya market. The men then seized his weapon before fleeing in the direction of the Aramba valley.<\/p>\n

\u201cShoppers and traders tried to save the injured policeman, however he died on the way to hospital,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n

The citizens of Kabkabiya city have appealed to the local authorities to provide security in the city, stop the entry of militants to the markets and bring the perpetrators to justice.<\/p>\n

In a separate incident, a group of armed militiamen sparked panic and terror on Tuesday night among people at the horse racing camp in Kabkabiya when they fired into the air before ransacking a shop and robbing some displaced people of their cell phones.<\/p>\n

A displaced person told Radio Dabanga that Musa Mohamed Ahmed and Mohamed Lumbi were robbed of their phones, and that the militiamen continued firing into the air until the early hours of Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n

This prompted the displaced to file a complaint with the police and the Unamid forces, demanding security and protection.<\/p>\n
