Heavy rainfall on Sunday destroyed 150 houses at Square Five of Kalma camp for the displaced in South Darfur.<\/p>\n

A sheikh of the camp, Ali Abdulrahman Al Taher, told Radio Dabanga that the rainfall has left the displaced in \u201ctragic situations in the open without tents or plastic sheets\u201d.<\/p>\n

Sheikh Al Taher criticised what he called \u201cthe silence of international organisations and their failure to provide for the basic needs of the displaced to face the autumn\u201d.<\/p>\n

In a separate event, the Tawila camps in North Darfur have demanded that international organisations and the government provide them with relief, farming seeds, plastic sheets and tents to enable them to face the rainy season.<\/p>\n

One of the sheikhs explained to Radio Dabanga that the displaced persons of the Tawila camps total 68,000. \u201cThey need aid, tents, plastic sheets and seeds for agriculture. Because of the torrential rains, most of the displaced are living in the open,\u201d the sheikh said, claiming that the organisations have not provided the displaced with any aid for two years.<\/p>\n
