The Chairman of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA), Dr Tijani Sese has warned that the tribal clashes as well as in-fighting between armed groups in the state \u201cis creating chaos that threatens to undermine the security and social peace in the province\u201d.<\/p>\n

Dr Sese was addressing a popular celebration at Abu Shouk camp in El Fasher, capital of North Darfur on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe incidents that occurred in the city of Nyala during the past week are negative indicators that undermine the entire peace process in the country and can be passed from Darfur to the rest of the cities and states of Sudan unless the state enables the regular forces of the army, police and security with necessary capabilities to establish prestige of the state,\u201d Dr Sese said.<\/p>\n

He underscored that the successive incidents in the region \u201care not encouraging for the implementation of the peace agreement. It shows an absence of the extension of the prestige of the State, and that what happened in Nyala can be replicated in the other cities of Darfur\u201d.<\/p>\n

He added that what is happening now in Darfur \u201chas nothing to do with the armed movements\u201d, asserting: \u201cthe Sudanese state began corroding from Darfur because of ongoing conflicts.\u201d<\/p>\n

The deputy president of the National Congress in Nyala, South Darfur, cited the assassination attempt during which militia leader Ali Kushayb (see related article below) and his bodyguards were gunned-down in Nyala\u2019s industrial zone on Sunday as \u201can alien method to Darfur and its society\u201d. He called on the Khartoum government \u201cto act to extend the prestige of the state and impose security in Darfur\u201d.<\/p>\n

Speaking for the executive office of the parliamentary body of the MPs of South Darfur in Omdurman, Shartai Omar Adam Gondolee said that the body \u201chas initiated the necessary arrangements to hold meetings with the President, the Ministers of Defence, Interior and the Director of Intelligence and Security Services to assess the position of each of these parties about what is happening in the state, and especially in Nyala.\u201d He explained that the MPs require clarity on \u201cwho the unruly militias that cause the problems in Darfur belong to\u201d.<\/p>\n
