A mother who gave birth less than two months ago was allegedly raped \u201cby pro-government militiamen\u201d in Central Darfur on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

A witness told Radio Dabanga that the woman, who lives in the Al Umda area of Nertiti locality was on her way to collect firewood when she was intercepted and raped by the militiamen.<\/p>\n

After reporting the incident to the police, she was taken to Nertiti hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n

In a separate incident, also on Tuesday, a commercial vehicle was reportedly pillaged \u201cby pro-government militiamen\u201d on the road from the Kearney area to Jeldo in Central Darfur. A witness told Radio Dabanga that the gunmen forced the passengers to offload the goods, and also seized SDG300,000 ($68,000).<\/p>\n

Heavy rainfall on Tuesday evening has destroyed more than 300 homes in the camps for the displaced in Nertiti locality.<\/p>\n

This resulted in various injuries, especially among the elderly, according to sources within the camp, many displaced people are no living in the open without shelter or food.<\/p>\n

A spokesman for the displaced appealed via Radio Dabanga to international organisations and the UN to provide plastic sheets and tents to assist the displaced during the rainy season.<\/p>\n
